Job Description

About us

At Distalmotion, we believe that every patient undergoing minimal invasive surgery should benefit from the best of surgical expertise and robotic technology. This is the vision that made us create Dexter, the world’s first and only on-demand robotic surgery system. Thanks to Dexter, surgeons have never been closer to their patients while benefiting from robotic best-in-class technology.

Distalmotion has been created in 2012 by passionate and open-minded people with various experiences. Today, we are still convinced that an inclusive and international company culture is the best way to continue growing. Our leadership is highly committed to promote diversity among the teams and welcome every employee based on their identity.

You are looking for a new fulfilling challenge in a fast-growing medical device company? Join a team engaged in making on-demand robotic surgery the new medical revolution.

About Robotics and Simulation Internship

Project Title: Interactive Surgical Simulation Scenario for Robot’s Design and Control Optimization.

Project Description: The main goal of this internship is to develop a software application in MATLAB for interactive surgical setup planning, control optimization and simulation of surgical robotic arms. It will serve to constantly look for excellence in the way we use the robot in the operating room, as Distalmotion is committed to bringing the best care to our patients.

The intern will be immersed in the world of surgical robotics, interact with clinical experts in the field of laparoscopic surgery and exercise fundamentals of dynamics and control of robotic manipulators.

The intern will primarily follow projects for robotics control.

Tasks

  • Create a MATLAB standalone application that allows the user to interactively configure a surgical simulation scenario (position of patient, robots, and surgical equipment, etc.), and compute some key performance indicators (e.g., workspace, etc).
  • Interact with clinical specialists and surgeons to bring the most realistic practices to the simulation, as well a realistic patient model.
  • Apply techniques such as photogrammetry to bring up the realism of the scenario.
  • Work with existing MATLAB scripts for control of surgical manipulators under kinematic constraints, as well as automated collision-free workspace computation.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree in Micro-Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, and SolidWorks. Knowledge of Blender is a plus.
  • Has basic knowledge of kinematics of robotic manipulators. Familiarity with linear and non-linear optimization techniques is a plus.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong interest in MedTech, robotics.
  • Resident in Switzerland or EU.
