Job Description

To support our on-going drug discovery effort, Monte Rosa Therapeutics is seeking a talented, experienced, and highly motivated chemist proficient in small molecule drug discovery. The ideal candidate is interested in contributing to highly innovative research programs focused on Molecular Glue Degraders. This Boston-based position offers a tremendous opportunity to be an integral part of a team at the forefront of drug discovery research and development. The team is focused on the discovery of new medicines to treat cancers and other serious disorders. The successful candidate will be innovative, thrive in an intense, intellectually challenging, and dynamic environment, and use her/his creative problem-solving skills to support both platform and program-oriented discovery efforts in our Boston and Basel sites.

Principal Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a cross-functional team to develop and lead Monte Rosa’s early stage project portfolio
  • Partner with Biology team to execute and follow up on medium and high throughput screening campaigns to identify and progress compound hits
  • Design chemical tools to help elucidate key biological understandings in order to enable a successful program (e.g. selectivity, degradation pathway, SAR trends etc)
  • Design of novel, and proprietary Molecular Glue Degrader compounds
  • Developing successful synthetic routes with possible strategic diversification points and following their execution through contract research organizations or through available in-house resources for multiple targets in parallel including ownership of associated timelines
  • Oversight of external chemistry resources
  • Compound tracking in synthesis and assays
  • Data tracking, processing and presentation through state of the art software
  • Contribute to the further expansion of our proprietary library of molecular glue degraders by designing novel scaffolds
  • Contribute to Monte Rosa’ publications, presentations and patents
  • Ability to work collaboratively across our Boston and Basel research teams
  • Work very closely and collaboratively with a team of interdisciplinary researchers to ensure timely and reliable delivery of project objectives.

Requirements

  • PhD in synthetic/medicinal chemistry with 5 years of experience or MSc with 10+ years of experience
  • Prior experience in Biotech and/or Pharmaceutical industry in a Chemical Biology context
  • Deep medicinal chemistry understanding
  • Experience building drug discovery programs and advancing them into lead optimization
  • Proven track record of continuous discoveries through publications or patents
  • Extensive experience in the collaboration with CROs and oversight of external resources
  • Firm understanding of the utility and applications of in-vitro and in-vivo assays leading to the progression of programs to clinical candidates
  • Familiar with chemistry databases and SAR visualization tools
  • A commitment to excellence, maintaining detailed records, and having superb data organization skills.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic; fast learner who can identify the core project challenges and expeditiously change course as required in a fast-paced organization.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with a command of English
