Associate Director/Director Biomarker Development Translational Sciences

Location: Boston or Basel

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist leader devising and leading the discovery and implementation of biomarker and diagnostic strategies to support Monte Rosa Tx effort to identify small molecule glue degraders in different disease areas such as cancer and autoimmune/inflammatory diseases. In this position within the Target Biology and Translational Research group, the candidate will provide scientific leadership the identification and validation of biomarkers to support indication selection and early clinical development of novel molecular glue degraders. The candidate will direct pharmacology studies and translational research in collaborative efforts with the preclinical team and the clinical team. The role will involve significant interaction and collaboration within the company and with external partners. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as biomarker lead for preclinical and clinical stage oncology and autoimmune/inflammatory programs by independently formulate strategies for the discovery, development, and implementation of biomarkers for ultimate use in clinical settings
  • Develop and direct scientifically accurate assays to translate preclinical data into meaningful clinical biomarkers for advancing molecular glue candidates
  • Lead and provide the strategy to drug discovery teams to candidate selection, IND filing and clinical introduction
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., target biology, translational research, nonclinical and clinical development) to ensure successful operational execution of biomarker plans
  • Establish outsourcing of biomarker assays as needed and develop a plan for internal biomarker capabilities
  • Communicate data and strategies effectively to key stakeholders, including internal team members, senior management, and external partners

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in biology, pharmacology or related discipline with 8-10+ years of relevant experience in the biotech/industry and/or academic institutions
  • Experience in translating disease biology and the pharmacology of therapeutic agents into clinical biomarker strategies that address key questions during clinical development and impact clinical decision-making across multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to use strong science to guide strategic direction
  • Proven track record for striving for high level of inter-disciplinary problem solving, innovation and scientific excellence
  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading teams, both directly and in matrix organizations
  • Experience working with CROs for the development, transfer and deployment of diagnostic assays preferred, including budget management
  • Experience with companion diagnostic/diagnostic development preferred (CDRH experience a plus, including pre-sub, IDE and/or PMA interactions)
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate (written and oral) complex biomarker data and its impact on program and regulatory strategy
