The Role
We are seeking to hire an experienced, pragmatic and agile lawyer who will build and lead our legal department and help prepare our organisation for the next growth phase. As General Counsel, you support our ambitious roadmap by partnering with all functions to drive business value across the company. This is a key hire for us, and the culture fit will be just as important as the technical skill set.
You will report directly into the C.E.O and work closely with the senior leadership team and functional leaders. You enjoy interacting with a large number of stakeholders at all levels of the organization and you are ready to operate in a fast-paced environment.
You bring strong leadership skills combined with a solid experience in commercial contracts, software licensing (e.g., SaaS, open source, cloud based services), technology and IP, corporate and regulatory compliance, and legal operations gained in another in-house legal position within the technology sector and in an international environment.
Fluent English language skills are mandatory. Additional German and French language skills are an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Build, lead and manage the growing legal department.
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making at the leadership level to develop and implement a legal strategy aligned with the corporate vision and its current and long-term business objectives.
- Draft, review, negotiate and manage risks in relation to complex cross-border commercial contracts and license agreements, including channel and distribution sales models and joint ventures.
- Evaluate Unblu’s current and proposed activities, policies, business practices and transactions within the Unblu group to protect reputation and business interests and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Oversee legal defense actions and represent the Company in any dispute, litigation and arbitration matters before courts (via outside counsels), government agencies, or other authorities in order to protect Unblu’s legal and business interests.
- Actively engage, manage and advise the senior leadership team on all compliance and risk matters, including the potential impact of current and future laws and regulations on Unblu's operations.
- Manage and protect Unblu's intellectual property portfolio (i.e., global patents, trademarks and copyrights, including domain name maintenance, patent and trademark registrations, licensing and enforcement). Manage the in-bound IP development and licensing of third party IP, and free and open source software.
- Provide legal support to Sales, Finance, HR, Engineering, and Operations.
Requirements
- Commercial lawyer with 8+ years of experience ideally acquired in a law firm and/or substantial experience in a multinational, preferably in a software/technology company.
- Excellent business amp; commercial acumen allowing the business to move quickly to achieve its goals, while appropriately managing risk.
- Very strong communication skills, explaining legal concepts to non-legal staff and giving clear advice on complex topics.
- Team player with strong relationship management skills.
- Strong decision-making skills paired with self-confidence and get it done attitude.
- Independent, hands-on, proactive and pragmatic working style.
